Symbol for Windows Home

Making individual settings for Symbol for Windows programs

The Symbol for Windows user modules (Personal Communicator, Document Maker and the games) can all be adjusted to the individual user with a range of settings.

Adjusting the screen

The Command Bar in the Document Maker and the Sentence Bar in the Personal Communicator are examples of parts of the computerscreen that can be adjusted or hidden altogether. When a user doesn't understand the function of a button, you can simply leave it out, or make the submenu attached shorter. When the user needs more extensive functionalities, you can add buttons to make the Document Maker work almost exactly like a regulare word processor. You can also program functions into the cells of the vocabulary. Screen parts can furthermore be enlarged or shrunk.

Personal selection sets

It is possible and even recommendable to create a personal selection set, or vocabulary, for a user. Next to their favourite symbols, you can add pictures and names of family members and friends or class mates. You can add (pre-programmed) commands to cells in the vocabulary, so it works like a control panel. Furthermore, you can create special vocabularies for learning letters, or theme-pages about a certain subject. You can make the sets apart, or join them together as pages within a larger set. It is possible to export whole sets and use them in other Symbol for Windows programs, or alter them for another user.

Saving your settings

The settings don't have to be altered again every time you open the program. They are saved as soon as the program is closed and used again when the program is opened later. Are there multiple users on one computer? Create an account under Windows for every user. The Symbol for Windows program you open under the account of a specific user, will open with the settings you specified for that user earlier.
